The family at the Narrow Gauge Inn had worked hard for 5
days, coming up with ideas and planning the Firefighters BBQ on July 27, 2018,
held at The Grove church in Ahwahnee, Ca.
Executive Chef Ryan Simas and General Manager George Ohan
along with many other employees worked hard to give their best to the
firefighters who are risking their lives trying to protect the people affected
by the Ferguson Fire.
George Ohan said, “We want to offer a smile, a handshake,
and some hugs to these people. I know that some of the folks here have left
behind their dogs, wife, husband, children , or other loved ones to come here
and do some really hard work to save our homes. This is our way of saying,
Thank you!”

This event was all about positive vibes. The volunteers had gratitude
while serving those who serve them. Many humble firefighters were thankful for
the kind gesture offered by the community. The main message was: We want all firefighters to know that we DO
notice and we DO care. You are NOT forgotten. You are saving our homes, and we
appreciate YOU. Judging by the reactions and comments on Facebook, people
were definitely feeling the vibes.
With the unfortunate circumstances of the Ferguson Fire many
people did not know what to do. Instead of standing by and doing nothing, some
of the good folks in the local community wanted to give something back, to
those who give so much.

We’d like to thank the volunteers that showed up to help create
such an amazing day for our firefighters. Those who could break from the fire
line, were able to enjoy a delicious meal and relax with friendly faces.
This fire disrupted many travelers’ plans and many local
businesses too. Everyone has been affected by the damage and there is no
telling when the fire will stop. The smoke affects many people, old and young,
causing them to stay inside on what could usually be a beautiful Summer day. People
are now forced to make alternative plans because of smoky and harmful
conditions.
The Central California mountain community acknowledges what
the firefighters are continuing to sacrifice during the Ferguson Fire.
Residents from Sugar Pine, Coarsegold, Oakhurst, Mariposa,
Fish Camp, Ahwahnee, and Wawona came together to feed firefighters, first
responders, support, and volunteers. It was a special day!
The mountains are a small and humble community that cares
for people, as well as the environment. They can’t express enough appreciation to
anyone and everyone who helps save their way of life. As a community, they show appreciation to those
who help them.
